NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A New Orleans man identified as a gang member by authorities has been sentenced to 16 years in federal prison in a drug and gun conspiracy case.
Acting U.S. Attorney Duane Evans in New Orleans says in a news release that 25-year-old Delwin McLaren was sentenced Wednesday. He was one of five people convicted in June in connection with the “Young Melph Mafia” gang.
Prosecutors said the gang distributed crack cocaine in New Orleans’ Central City neighborhood and took part in violence against rival gangs.
McClaren is the latest to be sentenced. He was convicted on charges of distributing cocaine and marijuana and conspiracy to possess firearms.
