One Alabama resident has received a robocall from a person posing as a Washington Post reporter looking for damaging information on Senate candidate Roy Moore, WKRG reported.

The caller reportedly left a voicemail seeking a woman “54 to 57 years old” to make accusations against the former state chief justice with a reward of “$5,000 to $7,000” along with the promise of not investigating the accusations.

“Hi, this is Bernie Bernstein, I’m a reporter for The Washington Post calling to find out if anyone at this address is a female between the ages of 54 to 57 years old willing to make damaging remarks about candidate Roy Moore for a reward of between $5000 and $7000 dollars. We will not be fully investigating these claims however we will make a written report. I can be reached by email at albernstein@washingtonpost.com. Thank you.”

Mr. Moore, the Republican candidate in Alabama’s Senate race next month, has come under fire recently for allegations that he made advances on several women when they were minors and he was district attorney. He has denied these allegations and refuses to drop out of the race even as top Republicans and the Republican National Party have pulled their support.

The Washington Post responded to the fake call, telling Axios in a statement that they were “shocked and appalled” that someone would try to “discredit real journalism.”
