Radio host Mark Levin says Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell should resign for failing to shine a spotlight on lawmakers who have sexually harassed staff members.
Testimony by two female lawmakers before the Committee on House Administration on Tuesday revealed that at least two sitting congressmen — one Democrat and one Republican — have engaged in sexual harassment on Capitol Hill. The news infuriated Mr. Levin, who said “a code of silence like the mob” is being honored by both Mr. Ryan and Mr. McConnell.
“I’m calling on Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan to resign,” Mr. Levin said Tuesday night, Conservative Review reported. “Not to be provocative or controversial. But if this sexual harassment has been going on — and I’m quite serious about this – in the United States Senate and the United States House of Representatives, and they are the leaders .. they know who’s who.”
The host’s comments came in response to testimony by Rep. Jackie Speier of California and Rep. Barbara Comstock or Virginia, a Democrat and Republican respectively.
One of the unnamed lawmakers allegedly exposed himself after inviting a female staffer to his home under false pretenses.
“This member asked a staffer to bring them over some materials to their residence,” Mrs. Comstock said. “This young staffer — it was a woman — this younger staffer went there and was greeted with a member in a towel. It was a male who then invited her in. At that point, he decided to expose himself. She left and then she quit her job.”
“Apparently, there are members of Congress who are predators,” Mr. Levin said in response to the story. “Predators! And yet there is a code of silence like the mob.”
