INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Indianapolis Public Schools teachers are in line for a raise following a new union contract with the school district.
The Indianapolis Star reports the agreement between the district and the Indianapolis Education Association moves teachers up on a salary schedule. Raises will be retroactive for the current school year and district officials hope to get payments to teachers soon.
Superintendent Lewis Ferebee says the district sees “value in compensating our teachers accordingly.”
Eligible teachers are those covered by the agreement and who received an “effective” or “highly effective” rating on their last evaluation and have been with the district for at least 120 days. The average raise is about 2 percent.
The agreement also gives teachers more ways to boost their pay by taking on additional “teacher leader” roles.
