On his first day back at the White House after a trip to Asia, President Trump took to Twitter with a vengeance Wednesday to blast his critics in the news media.

Mr. Trump labeled CNN as “Loser!” and skewered the “failing” New York Times for being “naive (or dumb)” on foreign policy.

The president had kept a decidedly diplomatic tone in his tweets while on the nearly two-week trip to five nations in Asia, including Japan, South Korea and China.

“The failing @nytimes hates the fact that I have developed a great relationship with World leaders like Xi Jinping, President of China,” Mr. Trump said in a series of tweets. “They should realize that these relationships are a good thing, not a bad thing. The U.S. is being respected again. Watch Trade!”

He continued, “It is actually hard to believe how naive (or dumb) the Failing @nytimes is when it comes to foreign policy…weak and ineffective!”

Mr. Trump said he was forced to watch CNN in Asia and was dismayed by its coverage.

“While in the Philippines I was forced to watch @CNN, which I have not done in months, and again realized how bad, and FAKE, it is. Loser!” he tweeted.

The president enjoyed what he called a successful trip to Asia that included building support to confront the nuclear threat from North Korea and making trade deals.

He also helped win the release of three UCLA basketball players who were arrested for shoplifting in China and faced a long prison sentence. The three players arrived Tuesday night in Los Angeles.

Mr. Trump noted that he hadn’t gotten a thank you.

“Do you think the three UCLA Basketball Players will say thank you President Trump? They were headed for 10 years in jail!” he tweeted Wednesday.
