The Buffalo Bills have given up 492 rushing yards combined over their past two games, so naturally, they’re making a quarterback change.

Bills coach Sean McDermott announced Wednesday that starter Tyrod Taylor will be benched for rookie Nathan Peterman when Buffalo plays the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.

The Bills have lost two straight and are 5-4 this season, but at first glance, the move doesn’t seem to make much sense. Taylor has a 91.4 quarterback rating in 2017 and has thrown 10 touchdowns to just three interceptions.

Peterman, a fifth-round pick out of Pittsburgh, took over in the Bills’ 47-10 loss to the Saints, going 7-for-10 for 79 yards and a touchdown. Against the Saints, Taylor was just 9-of-18 for 56 yards with an interception.

McDermott said the change was about trying to make the playoffs, where the Bills are still very much in contention.
