WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) - New York’s outgoing Westchester County executive says a private company has been tentatively chosen to operate the county airport.
According to The Journal News , Rob Astorino says a bipartisan committee from the Westchester County Board of Legislators has selected the Macquarie Infrastructure Corporation.
Democrat George Latimer, who beat the Republican incumbent on Tuesday, wants more community input.
The $1 billion, 40-year deal still requires full legislative approval.
Astorino says it would make money for the county. Some residents are concerned it could lead to more flights.
Macquarie says it’s pleased by the recommendation. It calls the airport “an important community asset.”
