CHICAGO (AP) - Bruno Skokna made a key steal with 10 seconds left and Marques Townes secured it with 1 of 2 free throws as Loyola-Chicago beat Wright State 84-80 in the season opener for both teams on Friday night.
The Ramblers led for the entire second half but never pulled away and Wright State was able to close within two on Mark Hughes’ 3-pointer with 26 seconds left.
The Raiders send Donte Ingram to the foul line where he made 1 of 2 for an 83-80 lead, but Alan Vest’s turnover prevented Wright State from getting a shot to tie.
Ingram led Loyola with 21 points, including 3 of 6 from 3-point range. Clayton Custer added 18 points, Cameron Krutwig scored 17 and Townes 16.
Grant Benzinger led Wright State with 16 points. Everett Winchester and Mark Hughes scored 15 apiece and Justin Mitchell added 13.
