DALLAS (AP) - A Dallas County juvenile services official has fired and demoted two supervisors whose poor oversight led to a sex scandal at one of the county’s juvenile detention centers.

Terry Smith, the Juvenile Department’s executive director, fired the Lyle B. Medlock Youth Treatment Center’s program manager and demoted the center’s detention manager on Tuesday.

Officials say five boys locked up for sex offenses engaged in sexual acts with each other on at least two occasions between November 2016 and April 2017 while unsupervised at the center.

The boys were sleeping on mattresses on a multipurpose room floor at the time because of understaffing.

Smith tells The Dallas Morning News that she plans hand out more discipline soon.

Smith says she’s also increased training and conducts more unannounced rounds herself.
