Nothing signals New York Mets dysfunction more than a Page Six report.
Mets pitcher Matt Harvey was out partying until 4 a.m. before skipping his team’s next game, the New York Post reported. Harvey was suspended three games for not showing up to Citi Field, the Mets’ home ballpark.
Harvey, according to the Post, maintains he felt fine from the night before and went golfing Saturday morning. After golf, he took a nap and woke up with a migraine.
The Mets, though, are furious Harvey didn’t show up to Saturday’s game and didn’t hear from him. Harvey, per the report, said he sent a text message that he couldn’t make it.
The Mets even sent security officials to check on Harvey, who answered the door in his pajamas.
Harvey was suspended three games without pay, a rarity in baseball. He is appealing his suspension.
The Mets are 15-16 in a season riddled with injuries. The season has gone so poorly that SNY, the team’s television partner, put together a highlight package of all the lows the Mets have suffered.
