Sen. Bill Cassidy said Tuesday that Democratic participation in the Senate’s health care will determine how fast passing the legislation will take.
“First it depends on whether Democrats get engaged,” he said on MSNBC, explaining that many Democrats have complained that Republicans haven’t reached out to them.
“I’m thinking, don’t be passive,” Mr. Cassidy said. “Come to Mitch McConnell with an idea that might lower those premiums.”
He also explained his health care plan with Sen. Susan Collins, which he claimed would cover those with pre-existing conditions without making their coverage unaffordable.
“Under our plan everyone of the same age is charge the same amount,” he said. “The older people might be charged a little bit more, but the credit might be a little bit more.”
He also said this can be done without a mandate and instead automatically enroll people.
Mr. Cassidy said he could not comment on the House bill, but that Senate bill will likely look a lot different. He hoped it would be more like his plan with Ms. Collins.
