PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - A Portland-based airline plans to launch flights from Maine’s largest city to Halifax, Nova Scotia, in June.

Elite Airways says flights will begin on June 30. The Portland Press Herald (https://bit.ly/2pZ9UY1) reports the route will operate Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays at fares that start at $169 each way.

The flights will leave from the Portland International Jetport, thus making the jetport international again. Direct service from Portland to Nova Scotia ended in 2010 after Starlink Aviation lost a Canadian subsidy that supported its operations.

The route will allow Portland to become a hub for Canadian passengers making connecting flights to American destinations, such as Florida.
