BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - An Alabama staffing company and the federal government are settling a lawsuit over allegations of hiring discrimination in Louisiana.
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission says Automation Personnel Services Inc. will pay $50,000 under the agreement. The personnel placement company is based in the Birmingham suburb of Pelham.
The federal agency say Andrea Williams went to a career fair in Lafayette, Louisiana, in 2012 and tried to apply for a shipping job that Automation Personnel was attempting to fill for a company. A statement says the woman was told the position was meant for men and wasn’t suitable for women.
The EEOC sued last year and a judge has approved a settlement. An official with the agency is commending the company for settling the case quickly and avoiding unnecessary litigation.
