ANDRERSON, S.C. (AP) - Two people are suing a former sheriff saying they were connected to a killing they did not commit and now can’t find jobs.
Tanisa Hailey and Deandra Burriss are suing the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, former Sheriff John Skipper and others.
The Anderson Independent-Mail (https://bit.ly/2qNTBdg) reports the lawsuit says they were wrongly arrested and slandered in 2015.
Skipper named seven people and showed their pictures, saying they were part of a gang roundup in a fatal drive-by shooting. But a magistrate suggested there was little evidence after the arrests and no one has been indicted in the killing.
The lawsuit says Burriss lost a job as a nursing assistant after his arrest and Hailey is struggling to find a job.
The sheriff’s office said it doesn’t comment on pending litigation.
