CASPER, Wyo. (AP) - The embattled police chief in Casper is out of office.

City officials announced Friday they are not renewing the contract of Police Chief Jim Wetzel, who came under scrutiny following reports he oversaw a toxic environment for employees.

Members of the City Council called for an outside investigation and some two-thirds of the police force gave a vote of no confidence in Wetzel’s leadership.

The Casper Star-Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/2q8EEWJ) Wetzel is an at-will employee of the city and can be fired at any time by the city manager.

Wetzel declined to comment when approached outside the Police Department.
