President Trump announced Thursday that his first foreign trip later this month will begin with visits to Saudi Arabia, Israel and Rome to meet with leaders of three of the world’s great religions and build cooperation with Muslim allies in fighting terrorism.
At a White House event marking the National Day of Prayer, Mr. Trump said his trip will commence “with a truly historic gathering in Saudi Arabia with leaders from across the Muslim world.” He said he will forge “a new foundation of cooperation and support with our Muslim allies” to fight terrorism.
“Our task is not to dictate to others how to live” but to work with them to fight terrorism, Mr. Trump said, and to “bring stability to the war-ravaged Middle East.”
The visits will precede the president’s travel to a NATO summit in Brussels, Belgium, and to Sicily for a meeting of the G-7 nations.
