DETROIT (AP) - Federal prosecutors have filed a sweeping indictment in an investigation of corruption in suburban Detroit, charging the former head of a trash-hauling company with bribery and conspiracy in the awarding of public contracts.
Chuck Rizzo was chief executive of Rizzo Environmental Services. He’s accused of paying bribes to get work in Clinton, Macomb and Chesterfield townships in Macomb County.
Rizzo and his father, Charles P. Rizzo, are also charged with stealing money from Rizzo Environmental when the majority owner was a New York investment firm. The indictment says some of the money paid for Chuck Rizzo’s Oakland County mansion and was used for bribes.
Chuck Rizzo’s lawyer declined to comment Wednesday. A message seeking comment was left for his father’s attorney.
Twelve people have been charged in the suburban Detroit corruption probe, including some public officials.
