HESPERIA, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say one person has been killed and another wounded in a shooting after being confronted by law enforcement officers in the parking lot of a Southern California Walmart store.
The shooting happened Wednesday morning in the desert city of Hesperia.
San Bernardino County sheriff’s spokeswoman Cindy Bachman says officers were in the parking lot conducting an auto theft probe when they saw three people trying to steal a car.
Bachman says the officers approached, trying to stop the car and police shot two of the suspects.
Authorities say the driver was killed and a passenger remained hospitalized Wednesday afternoon.
A third person, who was seated in the backseat, wasn’t injured and was being questioned by investigators.
A Walmart spokesman declined to comment on the shooting.
