CRANFORD, N.J. (AP) - The Latest on Republican U.S. Rep. Leonard Lance’s town hall meeting (all times local):

7 p.m.

Republican U.S. Rep. Leonard Lance has distanced himself from President Donald Trump at his fourth town hall meeting since the inauguration in his northern New Jersey District.

Lance won applause at Tuesday’s meeting at Union Community College in Cranford when he told voters he opposed the GOP president’s budget and when he said he was a strong supporter of NATO.

It was Lance’s first town hall since a special counsel was appointed to investigate Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. It also was his first constituent meeting since the GOP-led House passed a health care overhaul, which Lance opposed.

Tuesday’s town hall seemed to attract fewer protesters and less regular, angry interruption than his earlier meetings.

But it wasn’t all applause for Lance. He got booed when he told voters he didn’t support a single-payer health care system.

Residents at Tuesday’s meeting at Union County College cheered the five-term incumbent when he said he doesn’t support President Donald Trump’s budget.

Lance has held three previous town hall since Trump was inaugurated in January.

Tuesday’s is his first since a special counsel began investigating Russian interference in the presidential election and the GOP-led House passed a health care overhaul. Lance voted against the measure.

Lance faced skeptical voters who promised to boot him out of office in earlier meetings.

But Lance kept his cool and said he was focused on working with Democrats.

Lance won in 2016, despite Trump losing to Clinton in the sprawling district.
