Jack Nicklaus says Tiger Woods “needs our help” after the legendary golfer was charged with a DUI Monday.

“I feel bad for Tiger. Tiger’s a friend,” Nicklaus told Golf Channel’s Nick Menta on Tuesday afternoon. “He’s been great for the game of golf. He needs our help. I wish him well.”

Police in Jupiter, Florida, found Woods asleep at the wheel while parked with the engine running on the side of a six-lane road about 3 a.m. Monday.

Woods, who reportedly passed a breath test but failed a field sobriety test because he couldn’t keep his balance, released a statement saying prescription medications played a role in his arrest.

“What happened was an unexpected reaction to prescribed medications. I didn’t realize the mix of medications had affected me so strongly,” Woods said. “I would like to apologize with all my heart to my family, friends and the fans. I expect more from myself, too. I will do everything in my power to ensure this never happens again.”

Woods had fusion surgery on his lower back in April, taking him off the PGA Tour for at least the rest of the season.

Nicklaus said he “feels bad” that Woods may not be healthy enough to break his record.

“Am I saddened he’s not playing? Absolutely,” he said, Golf Channel reported.
