SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - An extreme sports athlete who broke his neck in a helicopter crash in Russia last month has returned home to Utah.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/2qETyjx) 60-year-old Mike Trabert had been on a heli-skiing trip down a volcanic mountain on Russia’s Kamchatka Penninsula when a gust of wind caused the helicopter carrying him and his friends to crash. Trabert was taken to a hospital after the April 18 incident.
Trabert’s family has provided updates on his recovery on a fundraising website that said he made it back to Utah last week.
The website raised nearly $120,000 to bring Trabert home from Russia.
Trabert’s wife, Dinny Trabert, says a University of Utah doctor recommended he wear a neck brace for three months before determining whether surgery is necessary.
