CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - A Wyoming sixth-grader has won the state’s contest to name the new statewide assessment.

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reports (https://bit.ly/2r3AgGb ) Aiden Weinzierl’s submission beat out 98 others. The name of the assessment will be “WY-TOPP.”

The acronym stands for Wyoming Test of Proficiency and Progress. The test will replace the previous assessment in grades 3-8 and ACT-Aspire in grades 9-10. The ACT will continue to be given to students in 11th grade.

WY-TOPP will be administered online in a shorter period of time.

Aiden, who attends Cheyenne’s Anderson Elementary School, says he thinks WY-TOPP will be a better assessment for students.
