ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) - A near-miss on Metro’s tracks is prompting the transit agency to seek disciplinary action against two workers.
Media outlets report that Metro Chief Safety Officer Patrick Lavin told the agency’s safety committee Thursday that two employees didn’t follow safety protocol last week when they took a contractor onto tracks in Alexandria. They had to scramble out of the way when a train came, but no one was hurt.
Lavin notes the train operator wasn’t at fault and placed the blame largely on the workers who entered tracks without following procedures. Both are suspended and awaiting a decision on disciplinary action.
Officials say they didn’t follow the new procedure of warning operators face-to-face about workers on the tracks ahead. A controller who didn’t catch that mistake was suspended for 10 days.
