Minnesota Sen. Al Franken’s decision to openly express “hate” for Sen. Ted Cruz this week was met with well-wishes by his target on Wednesday.
A promotional interview for Mr. Franken’s new book titled “Giant of the Senate” included a smattering of personal attacks on Tuesday. The Democrat told USA Today that an entire chapter, “Sophistry,” is dedicated to the “singularly dishonest” Mr. Cruz.
The Texan, however, tempered his response.
“Al is trying to sell books and apparently he’s decided that being obnoxious and insulting me is good for causing liberals to buy his books,” Mr. Cruz told Politico. “I wish him all the best.”
Mr. Franken said his disdain for Mr. Cruz constitutes a higher level of esteem than the Texan enjoys from most senators.
“You have to understand that I like Ted Cruz probably more than my colleagues like Ted Cruz — and I hate Tex Cruz,” Mr. Franken told the newspaper.
“Giant of the Senate” details Mr. Franken’s 2008 campaign, his time with “Saturday Night Live,” and “behind the scenes” moments with lawmakers. The book, published by Twelve, will be released May 30.
