Comedian Conan O’Brien was put on the spot Tuesday night when he was asked what he thought of his peers’ anti-Trump jokes.
CBS “Late Show” host Stephen Colbert made national headlines on May 1 when he called President Donald Trump a “c—-holster” for Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. An audience member on Bravo’s “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen” used her moment to ask the comedy icon if Mr. Colbert’s joke went “too far.”
“First of all, I make it a policy not to judge other late night hosts,” Mr. O’Brien said, THR reported Wednesday. “I love Stephen and he’s an incredibly talented guy and I know how hard that gig is. So, no. It’s a volume business. We’re all making judgments left and right. I think he himself said, ’maybe I would have changed the wording slightly.’ “
The TBS “Conan” host added that a politically charged environment is making it hard to know what is appropriate.
“I think we are getting into a world right now where it’s hard to know what’s too far because everything seems like we are going over the edge at times,” Mr. O’Brien said. “In that moment I think he was reflecting some of the madness that all of us are feeling at times.”
