PHOENIX (AP) - The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors has unanimously approved a tentative $2.49 billion budget for fiscal year 2018.

The public will be able to comment on the budget between now and the final vote that’s scheduled for June 19.

More than 53 percent of the budget is allocated for public safety and criminal justice.

According to figures released by county officials Monday, capital project spending includes nearly $32 million for a public safety radio system and $37 million to convert an unused facility into working space for the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.

Maricopa County pays into several retirement funds and more than $22 million in the tentative 2018 budget is for employee pension contributions.
