Author Stephen King told over 3 million Twitter followers on Tuesday that the Islamic State group is a “rogue cult” that will bring about its own destruction through violence.
A Manchester Arena terror attack killed 22 people on Monday after a concert by singer Ariana Grande. The blast, perpetrated by 22-year-old Salman Abedi after he exited a London train, was proof to the writer that ISIS’ days are numbered.
“ISIS: A rogue cult that has substituted superstition and murder for spirituality. Every bombing hastens the day when they will be no more,” Mr. King said.
The writer’s supporters were supportive, although some called the message “wishful thinking.”
“Thank you. Wise words,” wrote Michelle Parlett. “Sad to see folk blaming Islam, when ISIS go [sic] against all teachings of that faith.”
“Look ISIS & Islam is different,” added Harpreet Makkar. “Please Don’t compare Islam with terrorism. It takes time to eliminate ISIS, but Islam is peaceful religion.”
Reader Sean P. Burns added, “Remember ISIS is only a tiny fraction of Islam, a religion which encompasses 1/4 of all humans.”
Hours later the nation’s terror threat level was raised by Prime Minister Theresa May from severe to critical. She added that “a further attack may be imminent.”
“It is a possibility we cannot ignore, that there is a wider group of individuals linked to this attack,” the prime minister said.
