CATLETT, Va. (AP) - Authorities are investigating a small plane crash in Fauquier County.
Virginia State Police tell local media that the crash happened shortly after 1 p.m. Sunday at the Maples Field Airport in Catlett. A 1940 Fairchild R40-404, fixed-wing, single-engine, two seater aircraft was trying to land at the airport when it ran off the left side of the runway and overturned.
Two people were inside the plane at the time of the crash. The pilot, 45-year-old William A. Hargreaves, was unharmed. The passenger, 85-year-old Donald J. Rhynalds, was taken to INOVA Fairfax Hospital.
State police and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the crash.
