PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix Councilman Michael Nowakowski is under investigation.

The Arizona Republic reports (https://bit.ly/2q6BKhp ) Friday that the Arizona Attorney General’s Office has been conducting an investigation involving Nowakowski since at least last spring.

While the nature of the investigation is unclear, the Attorney General’s Office requested public records from the city that correspond with the city’s work on a downtown land sale. That land sale ignited concern about the councilman’s involvement.

In September 2015, Nowakowski faced accusations from developers that he didn’t disclose a conflict of interest and remove himself from talks about a downtown land purchase, worth $8.5 million, that was being eyed by his employer for a project worth more than $100 million.

Nowakowski, whose private-sector employer, the Cesar Chavez Foundation, was a co-bidder for the land, denied any wrongdoing.
