SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Giant butterflies, cartoon characters and the occasional purple octopus are going to fly above South Portland.

Saturday is the day of the Bug Light Kite Festival, an event that draws hundreds of people to a park by a lighthouse to fly and watch kites. Colorful kites of all shapes and sizes will dot the sky.

The octopus kite has been a particularly big hit in recent years. Recent entries have also included a string of clownfish and a giant black and white cat.

The 11 a.m. event is hosted by the South Portland Historical Society.
