Megyn Kelly is gearing up for face time with Russian President Vladimir Putin this summer.
The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), also known as “Russia’s Davos,” will include a session with Mr. Putin moderated by NBC News’ latest addition.
The June 1-3 event has been held annually for over 20 years as a way of allowing the business community to meet with world leaders and experts.
Company insiders hope Ms. Kelly’s role as a moderator, which was brokered by NBC News chairman Andrew Lack, will lead to a one-on-one interview with Mr. Putin, entertainment magazine THR reported Tuesday.
Ms. Kelly’s Sunday newsmagazine will premiere in June, while her daytime show will begin in September at 9 a.m. EST.
“[Kelly] is tough and fair; there’s a place for that [on morning television],” NBC News President Noah Oppenheim told THR Monday. “We’re not giving enough credit to the morning audience to think that they don’t want those things. Her background is as an attorney, she’s a mom of three, and she has had a lot of experiences that will be relatable to a huge cross-section of the audience in the morning.”
