SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - School officials in South Burlington have narrowed to three the name of the mascot that will replace “Rebels.”

The school board in the Vermont city voted unanimously in February to drop the “Rebel” name at the high school because of previous connections to the Confederacy.

The decision upset some people. The ensuing furor is blamed for two defeats of the school budget

The choices that will be voted on are Huskies, Wolves and Pride, for a group of lions.

Earlier this month the list was at 69. Students then narrowed the list to 12.

WPTZ-TV (https://bit.ly/2qSUJ3m ) reports students will vote Thursday and a committee will present the final poll results to the school board on June 7.
