WATERBURY, Conn. (AP) - A three-alarm fire has hospitalized four Connecticut firefighters and destroyed multiple homes before being contained.
The Wednesday fire tore through a Waterbury neighborhood. Waterbury Fire Chief David Martin says up to 20 families may be displaced as the four multi-family homes are a total loss.
Martin says it appears that everyone made it out safely, but crews have been unable to enter the buildings due to the extensive damage. Three firefighters were hospitalized for smoke inhalation and one for cardiac issues, according to Martin.
No cause for the fire has been given at this time, and it remains under investigation. Martin says the department had water supply issues that hindered controlling the fire more quickly.
