Former President George H.W. Bush paid tribute to former Fox News CEO Roger Ailes after learning of his death Thursday.

“He wasn’t perfect, but Roger Ailes was my friend & I loved him,” the 41st president tweeted to his 252,000 followers. “Not sure I would have been President w/o his great talent, loyal help. RIP.”

Mr. Ailes, who served as a media consultant for Mr. Bush during his successful 1988 presidential campaign, died Thursday morning in Palm Beach, Florida, after falling and hitting his head days earlier. The former Fox News head, 77, had suffered from hemophilia, a rare blood disorder, his entire life.

Mr. Ailes resigned from Fox News in July following allegations that he sexually harassed several female colleagues. He strongly denied the claims.
