EVERETT, Wash. (AP) - Alaska Airlines has announced it will start offering daily flights out of an airport north of Seattle in 2018.

Seattlepi.com reports (https://goo.gl/TvNPLH ) the company said Wednesday it will begin offering up to nine flights a day from Everett’s Paine Field.

Alaska Airlines said in a news release that the plan would give travelers who live north of Seattle an option to catch flights closer to homes. The Seattle-Tacoma International Airport is south of Seattle.

If approved by the federal government, construction on a new terminal would start in June, with Propeller Airports and Snohomish County coordinating the effort.

Flights will be offered on Boeing 737s and Embraer 175s.

Alaska says it will announce routes, schedules and start selling tickets early next year, with flights slated to start in the fall.
