LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (AP) - Three people have been sentenced after being convicted for their roles in stealing a $4.3 million U.S. Treasury check.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports (https://on-ajc.com/2rttd8A ) that 54-year-old Prentice L. Johnson, 41-year-old Enobahkare Malik Peterson and 39-year-old Renina Letricia Wortham were each sentenced to two years and four months, according to a Wednesday news release from Department of Justice spokesman Bob Page.
Page says Johnson stole the IRS refund check in August 2016 from a private company where he worked as a payroll manager after learning he would be laid off. He asked his half-sister, Wortham, to help him cash it, and she enlisted Peterson and an unidentified person who tipped off federal law enforcement officials.
The trio was arrested in November, and all three pleaded guilty in January.
