FAIRFIELD, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont principal, currently under investigation by her school board, has been called to step down by a community organization who believes she is not able to keep their children safe.

The Fairfield Education Association asked for Jill Ballou’s resignation on Tuesday, with one of the members saying they were mortified that the school didn’t have a lockdown drill until April.

WCAX-TV reports (https://bit.ly/2qqH6XZ ) Ballou declined to speak at length about the comments. Instead, she provided a statement saying the ongoing independent review by the school board will prove she did her job.

The school board also declined to comment, but said their investigation will be completed in about two weeks
