VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) - The top prosecutor for Virginia’s largest city is launching a domestic violence awareness campaign.
The Virginian-Pilot reported Tuesday (https://bit.ly/2rmSnFV) that about 25 percent of Virginia Beach homicide victims in the last two years have been killed by someone they loved.
Commonwealth’s Attorney Colin Stolle hopes the new campaign will help change that. The campaign aims to educate victims about resources and encourages them to leave volatile relationships and seek safety.
A major part of the campaign will be a 30-second public service announcement airing on television and in local movie theaters.
The city has also been prosecuting misdemeanor domestic violence cases, which it’s not required to do.
