CHICAGO (AP) - Authorities say a young girl has died after being pulled from Lake Michigan on Chicago’s North Side.
Fire officials say the girl, believed to be 12 or 13 years old, was found Tuesday morning. She had jumped into the water for a swim just before 10 a.m.
Fire department spokesman Larry Langford says she was believed to be in the water for about 45 minutes. She was taken to a hospital in Evanston, where she was pronounced dead.
Authorities say even though temperatures in Chicago were expected to reach the mid-80s, the water temperature was around 50 degrees.
