White House counsel Kellyanne Conway Tuesday dismissed as “absurd” allegations made on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” that she only took the job working for President Trump for the money.
“The notion that I am serving for ’the money’ or a ’paycheck’ is absurd,” Ms. Conway said on Twitter. “As a campaign manager, I make a fraction of what other consultants have made on unsuccessful presidential campaigns. Then I walked away from dozens of opportunities for millions of dollars, and instead walked into the White House.
“I would do it again,” she added.

Her statement came in response to a Monday discussion in which “Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski accused Ms. Conway of admitting behind the scenes that she was “just doing this for the money.”
Ms. Brzezinski said that the former Trump campaign manager would come on the show to defend her candidate, but then after the camera was turned off, “she would say, ’Blech, I need to take a shower,’ because she disliked her candidate so much.”
Co-host Joe Scarborough said that she described the campaign job as her “summer in Europe.”
“[She] also said, that this is just, ’like my summer in Europe. I’m just doing this for the money, I’ll be off this soon,’” Mr. Scarborough said. “I don’t know that she ever said ’I’m doing this for the money,’ but, ’This is just my summer vacation, my summer in Europe.’ And basically, ’I’m gonna get through this.’”
In her tweet, Ms. Conway said that she would normally ignore such comments, describing the “Morning Joe” hosts as “virulent critics of the president and those close to him,” but that “when sentiments are attributed to me that are not true, it is necessary to respond.”
“It is a privilege to assist President Trump in the White House, just as it was during the campaign,” Ms. Conway said.
