EDMOND, Okla. (AP) - A city in central Oklahoma has received its sales tax collection check for May, which includes funds remitted by Amazon.
The Oklahoman (https://bit.ly/2pCbXS2 ) reports that this is the first time Edmond has received such funds since the company began collecting sales tax from the state’s customers in March.
The city’s finance director Warren Porter says the city is on track to receive 600,000 over the next fiscal year from the online company.
Sales tax collections from online purchases are logged at the state and municipal levels and form part of the use tax, which is applied when purchases are made outside of the state. In May, tax collections for Edmond were down 1.8 percent compared to last year.
Oklahoma is the 40th state to collect and remit sales
