LARGO, Fla. (AP) - Police say two people are dead after a sports-utility vehicle crashed into their stopped vehicles after veering into a highway emergency lane.

The Tampa Bay Times reports (https://bit.ly/2rdsWHx ) the crash happened just before 10 p.m. Friday along U.S. 19 in Largo.

Largo police say the driver of the SUV, Cesar Gonzalez-Calderon, hit a car after leaving the travel lane. The car hit a van. Both drivers were standing outside their vehicles and both later died at a hospital. They were not immediately identified.

Gonzalez-Calderon was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say the investigation into the cause of the crash is continuing. It was not clear whether any charges would be filed.
