NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - Virginia’s port could see an uptick in ship cargo this fiscal year.
The Virginian-Pilot reported Thursday (https://bit.ly/2pDVj0k) that the amount of shipping container cargo arriving in Hampton Roads has been steadily rising.
Virginia Port Authority CEO John Reinhart said the port is on track to surpass last year’s numbers. There’s been an increase of nearly 7 percent through April.
Last month was also the busiest April on record.
The number of rail containers was also on the rise last month, increasing by more than 4 percent from the same month last year. Truck containers were up nearly 5 percent.
Cargo that stored in bales, drums, crates or on pallets saw a jump of 8 percent.
