RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - A strong, fast thunderstorm moving across central North Carolina knocked out power for thousands of customers.
Duke Energy reported that about 12,000 people in Durham and Wake counties were without power late Thursday.
The utility said Friday morning that about 3,000 customers were still without service. Most of those were in Wake County.
Trees were blown down across the area, sometimes taking power lines down in the high winds.
No serious injuries were reported.
The National Weather Service said showers were likely Friday night and Saturday.
