MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Gov. Kay Ivey has appointed a new commissioner of the state’s revenue department.
The governor announced Friday that Vernon Barnett has been tapped to head the Alabama Department of Revenue.
Barnett was previously a senior adviser to the director of the state environmental management department. He has also held positions in the Alabama corrections department and the attorney general’s office.
Ivey says Barnett will be an honest steward of Alabama tax dollars as revenue commissioner.
The Vanderbilt University and University of Alabama School of Law graduate will begin in the position on May 22.
Ivey has been slowly replacing former Gov. Robert Bentley’s cabinet since she took office in April.
