BERLIN (AP) - The German Defense Ministry says two assault rifles and a pistol have been stolen from inside an armored vehicle at a military facility in northern Germany, in another embarrassment for the armed forces.

The news comes as the military investigates an alleged far-right plot by two soldiers to assassinate prominent political figures. Prosecutors say one of those soldiers managed to pass himself off as a Syrian refugee and they were planning to blame the attack on migrants.

In raids connected with that investigation, authorities found multiple rounds of munitions believed to have been stolen from the military. However, Defense Ministry spokesman Jens Flosdorff said Friday there is no indication yet that the February theft in Munster, in northern Germany, was in any way linked to the plot.
