Sen. Marco Rubio said Thursday he doesn’t feel it’s the right time for a special counsel in the Senate Intelligence Committee’s investigation into the Trump campaign’s Russian ties in wake of former FBI Director James Comey’s firing.

“Maybe that will eventually happen, maybe not,” the Florida Republican told CNN. “My advice is let us finish our report. Let us put all the facts out there. And then people can make that determination based on the facts we’ve discovered whether such a measure is warranted.

“I don’t think the time has come for that,” he said.

Mr. Rubio, a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, said that there was a better way for Mr. Comey to be dismissed given his history of public service.

“I do think after serving our country the way he did, if he was going to be dismissed, there’s probably a better way to have done it than the way it was conducted,” he said.
