CHICAGO (AP) - The U.S. women’s national team will host Brazil, Australia and Japan in the Tournament of Nations to be played in three West Coast cities this summer.
The round-robin tournament will feature doubleheaders in Seattle, San Diego and Carson, California, from July 27 to Aug. 3.
The U.S. Soccer Federation said Wednesday it plans to hold the summer tournament each year that there is not a World Cup or Olympic Games. The U.S. women are the defending champions of the Women’s World Cup, which will be held in France in 2019.
The winner of the tournament will be based on points.
Brazil will play Japan and the U.S. will face Australia in Seattle on July 27. Japan will play Australia and the U.S. plays Brazil in San Diego on July 30. The tournament ends in Carson on Aug. 3 with Australia facing Brazil and the U.S. against Japan.
“These are three talented teams that we haven’t played in a while so we’re looking forward to a summer tournament that will be extremely challenging and valuable for our players and entertaining for the fans,” U.S. coach Jill Ellis said in a statement.
