So James Comey is fired — and now Democrats are squawking.

No surprise there; that’s what Democrats do. But what is a bit surprising is their hypocrisy. After all, Comey’s firing is exactly what they were demanding over the last recent months.

Curious, how convenient their memories are, wouldn’t you say?

Chris Matthews of “Hardball” on MSNBC had this to say about President Donald Trump’s firing of Comey: “[There’s] a little whiff of fascism tonight, I think is fair to say.”

He made the remark in response to the one made by his panelist, former FBI Agent Clint Watts, who said Comey’s pink slip was an underscore that “the rule of law does to matter. It’s the rule of political power. … A little whiff of fascism tonight, I think is fair to say.”

Matthews repeated, and added: “A little whiff of ’I don’t care about the law. I’m the boss.’ “

Democratic Sen. Richard Blumenthal, across the media airwaves on CNN, told “Situation Room” host Wolf Blitzer that the firing represented a “looming constitutional crisis.”

Right. (Insert sarcasm here.)

But seriously, Blumenthal went on, as Breitbart noted: “The president of the United States just fired the chief investigator who has him as the target of the investigation. If there was ever any doubt about the need for a special independent prosecutor, which I’ve been advocating for months, there is no question now. Let’s remember that we face a looming constitutional crisis.”

He also called the firing “Nixonian in its air and quality and tone.”

Not to be outdone, former Hillary Clinton campaign chief Robby Mook, also on CNN, said on an “AC360” broadcast that Trump’s behavior was indicative of a tyrant.

“This is the kind of authoritarian behavior that we’ve seen spread in other parts of the world,” Mook said. “If we don’t stop it now, I’ve very worried about what could happen.”

And just one more. No good anti-Trump round-up would be complete without a quote or two from the celebrity circuit.

Rosie O’Donnell had this to say, on Twitter to Trump: “RESIGN YOU PATHETIC MORONIC SPOILED RICH P—-K.”

And from Cher, also on Twitter: “TRUMP SAYS 1 OF THE REASONS HE FIRED FBI DIRECTOR COMEY IS BECAUSE OF WHAT HE DID 2 HILLARY CLINTON. GOD, HE IS A GUTLESS, LYING TRAITOR!!”

And Michael Moore: “COMEY FIRED! Dirty, corrupt things afoot. The truth will all come out. The unraveling continues. … Hold the election over. Dirty. Corrupt.”

What’s a little bit amusing about all this shock and awe from the Democratic camp is this: Just a few short months ago, Democrats were calling for Comey to resign.

A headline from September 2016 in the Daily Beast: “Harry Reid: Comey Should Resign.”

A story from The Hill, in November 2016: “Sen. Charles Schumer is joining a growing chorus of criticism over FBI Director James Comey’s decision to alert lawmakers to new emails potentially linked to the bureau’s investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private server. ’I do not have confidence in him any longer,’ Schumer [said].”

An oped in The Hill, published in early November from Democratic Rep. Steve Cohen: “I called on FBI Director James Comey to resign his position …”

A quote from Rep. Maxine Waters about Comey, as reported by CBS in January: “The FBI director has no credibility.”

Oh, make it stop — the leftist hypocrisy.

That’s called: Be careful what you wish for — you might actually get it.
