President Donald Trump mocked Democrats in a tweet Wednesday over the firing of FBI Director James B. Comey.

“The Democrats have said some of the worst things about James Comey, including the fact that he should be fired, but now they play so sad!” the president tweeted.

Mr. Trump also hinted at a replacement for Mr. Comey.

“James Comey will be replaced by someone who will do a far better job, bringing back the spirit and prestige of the FBI,” he tweeted.

“Comey lost the confidence of almost everyone in Washington, Republicans and Democrats alike. When things calm down, they will be thanking me!” Mr. Trump tweeted.

The president sent a letter to Mr. Comey Tuesday evening informing him that he was fired from his post at the FBI after a review of his performance from newly enacted Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.
